Two out of every three Spaniards would buy an electric car if it cost less than 15,000 euros

Almost 70% of Spaniards believe that the manufacture of electric vehicles does not stand out because it does not interest large corporations and oil companies.

Electric and hybrid vehicles are a rising trend worldwide. The truth is that pollution levels, greater environmental awareness and the need for renewal of the vehicle fleet – which exceeds 12 years in Spain1 – are some of the keys to the breakthrough of this type of vehicle.

Specifically, in 2017, 13,021 plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicles were registered, 110.6% more than in 20161. These figures support the trend that this type of vehicle is making its way into society. In fact, 54% of Spaniards have already been informed about this type of vehicle, which they consider a very interesting option, according to a study by the Spanish vehicle sales startup Clicars.com.

The reality is that 70% of Spaniards consider that it will be necessary in the future to use only electric or hybrid cars. So much so, that nine out of ten respondents said that, if they could financially, they would buy an electric vehicle. 42% without any doubt. In addition, all of them agree that this would contribute significantly to improving the current environmental situation.

Shortage of public charging networks

However, to the undeniable benefits that electric vehicles have, drivers surveyed by Clicars also pointed out several problems: fundamentally the scarcity of public freight networks (24%), the high price (20%) and low autonomy (19%) ).

Regarding the price, the truth is that almost 60% of Spaniards believe that electric vehicles will not have an affordable price until after 2020. In addition, one in three respondents pointed out that today they do not have an electric car because of its high price, and 65% would have it among their preferred options when purchasing a new vehicle but for the current price. In large part (67%), blame it to the large corporations and oil companies when it comes to suppressing a brake on the more massive manufacture of this type of vehicles.

However, when asked how much they would be willing to pay for an electric car, 64% would allocate less than 15 thousand euros, 28% between 15 and 30 thousand euros and 6% more than 30 thousand euros.
