It was to become a sponsorship agreement that could have reached a volume of allegedly up to 800 million euros over several years – but now it has burst. We are talking about the intended deal between FC Bayern and the Munich-based carmaker BMW. As the German football record champion announced shortly after the completion of the 29th championship on the weekend, he has canceled the talks about a possible partnership “due to lack of confidence”. The meeting took place according to the club already on 8 May. “The negotiations are over, and we will not sponsor Bayern Munich,” also cited SPIEGEL ONLINE a BMW spokesman.

“About the reasons for this decision, Bayern would like to keep quiet now,” it said in the statement of the club. Earlier, the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung” reported on it.

The end comes as a surprise, because both sides had already submitted a letter of intent. One has “an agreement with BMW Show stock market chart for the future. Both in basketball and in football, “President Uli Hoeness said in March, but he reacted irritably to the total volume of 800 million euros, according to the media, which should reach this volume over a period of ten years.

“The sums that go around in the world, the back and forward do not vote,” said the chairman of the board at that time. The entry to the basketball players was scheduled for July 1.

In an agreement with BMW, the Munich-based carmaker would have had to replace the former Bayern partner Audi. With the BMW competitor from Ingolstadt still runs a contract until 2025. In addition, Audi is involved with 8.33 percent of Bayern.

Now the turn. According to “FAS” the BMW superiors wanted to board earlier, but had no success. Audi boss Bram Schot, who in no way wanted to make room for the car rival before the end of the contract in 2025, improved his offer. The Ingolstadt should pay in future speculated 60 million euros per year.

Audi puts significantly more money on the table

According to “Bild am Sonntag” is the annual amount to Bayern until now at 40 million. In return, according to reports, the contract would be extended until the 2030/31 season. The “FAS” writes of a financial commitment totaling one billion euros. A sum that, from the point of view of BMW, was “not economically viable”, as the newspaper report said.

The times are not easy for BMW. The BMW share lost 25 percent of its value within one year. At the shareholders’ meeting on Thursday in Munich, there was criticism because of impending antitrust, profit slump, price loss and dividend reduction.

The Bayern was according to the announcement at the meeting on 8 May by the Supervisory Board Chairman Uli Hoeneß, its deputy Herbert Hainer and the Chairman of the Board Karl-Heinz Rummenigge represented. According to the German master Harald Krüger (CEO), Nicolas Peter (Chief Financial Officer) and Pieter Nota (Chief Sales Officer and BMW BMW) have participated.
