Both are coming to the Land Down Under, though it’s not entirely clear when exactly.
Rivian has announced that both its R1T electric pickup truck and its R1S electric SUV will fittingly go on sale in the Outback, a perfect environment for these adventure vehicles.
It’s not yet known if New Zealand will be included too, but Rivian chief engineer Brian Case is confident in saying that the brand will launch its vehicles in Australia. However, there’s no word on exact timing right now.
Quoting Gase:
“Yes we will have an Australian launch. And I can’t wait to come back to Australia and show this to all of those beautiful people.”
Even more exciting is that Gase says both left- and right-hand drive versions of Rivians two vehicles are already in development and could in theory launch at the same time.

Gase adds:
“The ‘when’ is a tough question. How do you pick the right strategic markets on what’s core to your brand, where you’re going to see sales? And that’s why Australia is so exciting to us because you guys share a lot of the off-road and nature values that I think we have as a company. And you’re not on Italian narrow roads where this vehicle is a harder footprint to fit in.”
“The truck makes sense in the Australian market. We see significant value, particularly with the SUV in right-hand drive markets.”
Gase closed this interview with a very compelling statement:
“I want someone who is 10-years-old to have this poster on their wall in the same way I had the poster of a Lamborghini when I was a kid.”
Pricing for the R1T starts at $69,000. No prices for markets outside of the U.S. have been announced yet.
