BMW plans according to a report of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), two years earlier than previously planned to offer 25 electrified car models. The ambitious plan was supposed to be 2025 and was announced at the International Motor Show 2017. Now BMW boss Harald Krüger is supposedly no longer enough for the pace, and he wants to pull the project forward by two years. He has also announced the goal of selling 30 percent more electrified cars every year.

This could be difficult if the charging infrastructure is not expanded much faster. In the future, the mini will be offered as an electric version, the i4 and the iX3 are about to launch, but have not yet been presented.

BMW has not presented a pure electric car since i3 in 2013. Although improvements were made to the vehicle, new electric cars did not exist. BMW relies on various hybrid models.

Kruger demanded in one position paper, which became known in mid-June 2019 that the federal government would have to cheapen the charging for electric cars. In order for electric cars to gain acceptance faster, municipalities should provide free parking and additional benefits for electric car owners.

If electric cars did not sell better, the German car industry could not reach the CO2 targets of the EU, warned the BMW boss. In order to reduce CO2 emissions by 3.5 percent from 2021 to 2030, 55 percent of BMWs would have to have a plug in 2030, ie at least plug-in hybrids.

In March 2019, Volkswagen demanded in a comprehensive catalog of measures the greater promotion of electromobility from the Federal Government. Low earners should be financially supported when buying an electric car. For them, the charging current should be free of charge if their electric car cost less than 20,000 euros. In addition, the purchase of electric cars should no longer be funded in the future, but depending on vehicle size and range. If you buy smaller vehicles under 4 meters in length with a range of up to 200 km, you should receive 5,000 euros. Who buy cars with more than 4.65 meters in length, should only get 2,000 euros.

Another barrier sees VW in the approval process for private charging infrastructure. Therefore, procedures should be speeded up and at least two charging points should be set up on supermarket parking lots.
