at BMW Apparently a power poker has flared up around the chief post. According to “Handelsblatt” The supervisory board of the car company wants to decide at a meeting on 18 and 19 July about the future of CEO Harald Krüger. An extension of the contract is no more than the most likely variant, the newspaper reports, citing insiders. There is “high pressure in the boiler”.

Who the sources for this statement are, made the “Handelsblatt” not clear. So it remains uncertain whether only interested parties should sow their doubts – or whether the criticism of Krüger has really increased so much that he has to fear for his job. According to “Handelsblatt” there are criticisms in the company about the restructuring of the company. BMW itself declined to comment on Kruger’s future.

Krüger has the tricky task of making BMW fit for future fields such as car sharing and electromobility – without cannibalizing the sales of cars with combustion engines too fast and too strong. Krüger wants to save twelve billion euros in the next four years. So should the high costs for new models, technology and electric cars be covered.

According to Kruger’s will, the electric cars of the group should become as profitable as the vehicles with classic internal combustion engines by the year 2025. BMW has set itself the goal of bringing a total of 25 new electric or hybrid models to market from 2023 to 2025.

Krügers contract runs according to “Handelsblatt” until May 2020. If the popular in the group manager must go, a colleague from the board should move up. According to the report, two candidates are ready: Head of Development Klaus Fröhlich and Production Director Oliver Zipse.

The decision on the composition of the Chief Executive Officer falls within the Presidium of the Supervisory Board Stefan Quandtwho is sharing with sister Susanne Klatten about 48 percent of the BMW shares controlled. The top employee representative Manfred Schoch, who has been on the board for three decades, also has some influence.
