Magna will produce EV in a joint venture with BAIC

Magna International has signed a joint venture agreement with the Chinese group BAIC and the Zhenjiang municipal government to build new energy vehicles in the city. The factory will have a production capacity of 180,000 vehicles per year. The start of operations is expected at the end of 2020 with the production of the Arcfox electric vehicle developed by the subsidiary BJEV of the BAIC group. In June 2018 Magna and BJEV agreed to establish a partnership to jointly design and build premium electric vehicles in China and in January 2019 the two partners opened a new engineering center and started building a new test center for vehicles in Zhenjiang .Magna is a global manufacturer of bodywork and chassis and assembles contract vehicles in Austria. Magna Steyr produces cars for BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar. His participation in the joint venture with Zhenjiang is the company’s first direct investment in a vehicle manufacturer outside Europe. It is also an opportunity for Magna to extend its expertise to the development and production of electric vehicles.
