Not a day goes by when we aren’t thinking about the safety of our platform. As our community grows, so does our commitment to safety for our drivers and riders. Last month, we expanded our Community Safety Program, to reinforce our commitment to the safety of our platform. Today, we’re proud to share an update on the work we are doing to uphold the highest possible standard of safety for our community.
Community Safety Education
We’ve partnered with RAINN, the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the US, to launch a Community Safety Education program. We require every driver to complete the safety education program, which provides them with the skills to help create a safe environment for everyone. The program is now live, and all drivers are required to complete it by December 15, 2019. In the future, we plan to require that, in certain situations, a rider will have to complete a similar program.
Partnering with experts
In addition to our work with RAINN, we’re thrilled to be working alongside ADT, America’s leading security provider, to develop new features that give the Lyft community peace of mind. Our first safety collaboration will allow users to signal to ADT through the Lyft app when they need assistance, and receive help from an ADT security professional.

Safety built into the Lyft app
Last month, we shared some updates on new safety tools available in the Lyft app, including in-app emergency assistance. Since then, we’ve begun rollout of the ‘Share Your Location’ feature to the Lyft Driver app. Now, drivers can let loved ones track their routes in real time. This feature is available to riders as well.

Taking action to protect each other
Today, millions of rides take place on the Lyft platform every day. That’s millions of people putting safety first, treating each other with respect, and looking out for the good of the community. To reflect these shared goals, we’ve updated our Community Guidelines. All riders will need to agree to these new Community Guidelines to remain in the Lyft community.
We’re all in this together, and it’s up to all of us to help make Lyft a safe community for all.
