Safe driving is its own reward. But starting in December, Express Drive renters can earn more for safe driving. Just meet your personalized smart driving and ratings targets (as explained below), and you could earn a rate increase of up to 20% per mile.
How it Works
Today you earn a standard Per Mile rate, as is listed in your Lyft Driver app Rate Card. And starting in December, you can earn a 10% or 20% increase in your Per Mile rate, just by meeting the smart driving and ratings targets listed in your app.
And, you don’t need to do anything to sign up to receive this bonus. All you need to do is meet the numbers in your Lyft Driver app.
Every Monday at 5 AM, your progress toward your increased rate will be checked against the targets listed in your Lyft Driver app. If you’ve achieved your smart driving and driver rating targets, you’ll earn the 10% or 20% Per Mile rate increase for that week, starting then.
Your Smart Driving Percentage — and Your Rating
Your smart driving percentage is based on the percentage of rides you’ve given without receiving any unsafe driving reports in the last 2 months.
Your driver rating is based on the average rating of your last 100 rides. If you need more info on driver ratings, you can find it here.
How to Earn This Bonus:
A quick note:
The example below may not match the smart driving targets and driver rating targets in your Lyft Driver app.
First, open your Lyft Driver app and tap Earnings (or $). Then, tap Earn up to 20% more per mile.
You’ll see a smart driving percentage and rating target, which will be based on your current driving. These target numbers will remain the same each week, and you can track your progress in your Lyft Driver app at any time. On Mondays at 5 AM, your smart driving and rating targets will be checked against the numbers listed in your Lyft Driver app. If you’ve achieved the targets by then, you’ll earn the 10% or 20% Per Mile rate raise for that week, right then, at 5 AM Monday.
If it’s during the week and you’ve hit your targets, we’ll send you a text message to let you know you’ve unlocked your 10% or 20% bonus, which will be applied that coming Monday. We’ll also send you a notification in your Lyft Driver app on Monday when your new Per Mile rates go into effect.
You’ll see your increased Per Mile rate listed here in your Lyft Driver app on the Monday you earn it. You’ll also see it listed in your Rate Card.
To continue earning your increased Per Mile rate, maintain your smart driving percentage at or above your target, and keep your driver rating at or above the target.
Here’s an example:
If your Lyft Driver app looks like this, you’ll need to have both a 98.5% smart driving percentage and a 4.85 driver rating in order to earn 10% more on your Per Mile rate, beginning the following Monday.
For example, if it’s Thursday, November 21 and your app looks like this, you’ve met your driver rating requirement but have not met your smart driving requirement. In order to earn your increased Per Mile rate starting Monday, November 25, you’ll need to increase your smart driving percentage to 98.5% by 5AM on Monday, November 25. Then, you’ll have the 10% increased Per Mile rate for the week of November 25 through December 1.
If your smart driving percentage or rating drops below your target, we’ll send you a text to let you know. You’ll go back to earning the standard Per Mile rate for Express Drive renters the following Monday at 5 AM. To increase your Per Mile rate again, you’ll need to improve your smart driving percentage and/or driving rating to meet your targets.
Smart Driving Tips
Go hands-free
Use a phone mount so you can focus on the road. And never text while driving.
Aim for a smooth ride
Remember to follow all traffic laws. Safety is more important than speed.
Always find a safe place to stop
Pull over to a spot you’re comfortable with, and remember not to stop in bike lanes or bus stops.
Be mindful at drop-off spots
Remind your passengers to exit curbside (when possible) — and to watch out for bikes and scooters before opening their car door.
Take good care of your car
Check your tire treads and wipers often, and remember to have your car serviced regularly.
