Automaker: Software unit from VW starts in January

Wolfsburg The new software unit of Volkswagen is to merge the competences of the Group in vehicle IT from the beginning of 2020 onwards and to increase them significantly in the medium term. First of all, the company plans to acquire around 3,000 of its own experts, most of them from equity interests VWGroup.

By 2025, including external recruitment, company acquisitions and experts from the Group’s own brands, it will be more than 10,000. Initially, a total of 5,000 digital specialists were envisaged within the next five years. They should bundle the responsibilities for vehicle software, in the end also in their own “software brand”.
