Seven months later his release on bail under very strict conditions Carlos Ghosn will be able to speak, for the first time, for an hour, with his wife Carole this Friday. When he was released from prison last April, the court imposed extremely strict conditions on him, including the prohibition of contact with sixteen people named in the investigation, including his wife Carole. Justice explaining that they might be tempted, during their exchanges, to plan the destruction of evidence related to the case.
On several occasions, the Japanese lawyers of the former boss of Renault and Nissan had filed, unsuccessfully, requests to the judge to lift the ban, including proposing to strictly control this exchange. This Thursday, the court finally agreed, according to the NHK, that the two spouses are talking to each other for a limited time by videoconference. If the exact terms of this exchange have not yet been communicated, it is very likely that the exchange will be monitored by a court official.
“Harassment”
For months, the defense of Carlos Ghosn ensures that the excuse of the destruction of evidence is only an excuse advanced by prosecutors to morally break the indictment by depriving him of finding his wife. His councils regularly denounce the “harassment” of which the former Franco-Lebanese-Brazilian leader is the victim. They believe that the prosecution wants to test him psychologically to push him to confess the facts he is accused of.
Carlos Ghosn has been charged four times in Japan for violations of the Financial Instruments and Exchange Law (FIEL) and “aggravated breach of trust”. He categorically denies all charges. His trial, in the first instance, should begin in the second half of 2020 and could last more than 18 months.
