There is nothing to stop the arrival of Tesla cars “made in Germany”. On Thursday, the German state of Brandenburg validated the sale of several hundred hectares of land to the American automaker, as part of the construction of its “gigafactory” of electric cars near Berlin.

“The Parliament’s budget and finance committee today approved the sale of 300 hectares of land to Tesla,” the finance ministry for the eastern German state surrounding the capital.

First in Europe

The contract signed between the regional executive and the American company plans a transaction amounting to 40.91 million euros, a sum which will however have to be confirmed during a second “external” expertise which will be carried out by the end of January.

This plant, announced in November, is a first in Europe. It will allow Tesla to supply the European markets with batteries, motorization and vehicles, starting with the Model Y and Model 3.

Elon Musk’s business aims to open in 2021 and produce 500,000 cars annually.

Iconic arrival

Tesla already represents 30% of the European battery-powered electric car market, according to Matthias Schmidt, an analyst specializing in the automotive industry.

The arrival of the specialist in electric cars in Germany is emblematic, while the automotive sector of the country, plunged for several years in the scandal of rigged motors, embarked on an electric transition to forced march.
