The lack of public charging stations is a major obstacle to the electromobility, The Deutsche Telekom wants by the conversion of distribution boxes now more than double the offer.

According to one Report of the Automobile Week Deutsche Telekom plans to start converting summer summer 2018 12,000 distribution boxes in charging stations for electric cars. The spokeswoman of the company told the industry magazine.

There are already prototypes of these charging stations at the Olympic Tower in Munich and Mecklenburg Wittenburg. Of the 12,000 distribution boxes, however, only 500 will be converted into charging stations with 100 kW, the rest will be charged with 22 kW.

Nevertheless, the number of public charging stations would be more than doubled by 10,800, according to the Automobilwoche. The problem, however, according to the Telekom, the necessary parking facilities for electric cars in cooperation with the cities and municipalities implement, although there is great interest.

Theoretically, there is much more potential, as Telekom maintains 380,000 distribution boxes. The 12,000 pieces, which are now being rebuilt, should help to build a travel-supporting infrastructure. What costs the loading at the stations and when the conversion should be completed, is not yet known.

This is not the only project to create a better supply of charging stations. Volkswagen has teamed up with other manufacturers, at least along motorways, for example build your own fast charging system,
