IG Metall proposes a package for the future

After intensive discussions in the regional tariff commissions of IG Metall, it is therefore clear that the demand for fair change will be of central importance in the upcoming collective bargaining round for the metal and electrical industry.

Offer to employers

In order to shape change with and in the interests of the employees, good and quick solutions are now necessary. Therefore, the IG Metall proposes to employers “Moratorium for fair change“And negotiations about a future package. The aim is that the employers, together with IG Metall, secure the future of the employees by foregoing redundancies, outsourcing, location closings and relocations and instead undertaking in future collective agreements to secure and develop employment, locations and future prospects through investments and training.

In times of digital and ecological change – the transformation – people need the greatest possible security and prospects. Jörg Hofmann, First Chairman of IG Metall, emphasizes: “It’s about our future. And we firmly believe that this is 100 percent social, 100 percent ecological, 100 percent co-determined and democratic. ”It’s about fair change. “This is the only way to achieve transformation in Germany as an industrial location. This is the only way to ensure good work for millions of employees and maintain social prosperity and cohesion. ”

Concrete investments

IG Metall therefore calls on employers to face up to their responsibility for industry and the future of their employees – and makes them the following offer: IG Metall and employers are now starting to work, even before the collective bargaining for employees, which was originally scheduled for mid-March Metal and electrical industry in all regions in negotiations on a future package.

At the request of IG Metall, employers should undertake to negotiate future collective agreements in the companies, which include concrete investments and product prospects for locations and employees, as well as the exclusion of redundancies due to operations. Great attention is also paid to training, qualification and further training.

The aim is to achieve results for a future package and in return before the end of the peace obligation.

Deadline until February 3

The metal and electronics industry has suffered from an economic slowdown in recent months. It also has to cope with digital and ecological change. However, many employers are using the current situation as an excuse to save, cut staff, close locations and relocate work to maximize their profits. That is why IG Metall intervenes.

The problems are now there. And that’s why good and quick solutions are needed now. Employers are encouraged to make a decision before the IG Metall board meeting on February 3 whether they will engage in early negotiations on the future package.

Strengthen purchasing power

In this collective bargaining agreement, IG Metall also aims to strengthen the purchasing power of its employees. The main growth driver of the gross domestic product is private consumption. A safeguarding of real income therefore remains necessary for the economy as a whole. Before the possibly upcoming negotiations on the future package, however, there is no quantified demand by how much the fees should be increased.

For companies with underutilization of individual employee groups, IG Metall primarily wants to implement a reduction in the work volume without lowering wages. For example, through the use of working time accounts, short-time work with additional payments and reduced working hours with partial wage compensation. There should also be the right to subsidized qualification for everyone. The aim is also to increase the proportion of employees who can retire earlier through partial retirement and other flexible transition models.

Bonus for IG Metall members

IG Metall members should receive additional payments in the future in order to be able to bear the additional costs of ecological mobility and energy – for example, as a subsidy for tickets for local public transport, for charging electric vehicles, leasing e-bikes or as a subsidy for eco- Electricity contracts from renewable energy.

IG Metall provides detailed advice on these and other negotiation goals in the factories and collective agreements.

Politicians are also challenged

IG Metall and employers depend on political support to implement the future package and to succeed in the mobility and energy transition. The Federal Government and the Bundestag must now create the framework conditions for collective agreements based on this. The tariff partners demand the following measures:

Easier access to short-time work and an extension of the reference period to 24 months.
The expansion of the Qualification Opportunities Act so that in the future entire employment groups can submit applications for measures. So far, it has only been tailored to individual cases.
The extension of the transfer short-time work allowance to 24 months and the extension of access to the measures to all employees, not only for unskilled and older people.
