Maruti Suzuki targets sale of 1 million green cars at premiere of Concept Futuro-e

NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki India vowed to introduce newer, greener and customer-friendly technologies as the market leaders showcased its first electric offering Concept Futuro-E at the Auto Expo on Wednesday.

Maruti Suzuki embarked on ‘Mission Green Million’, where it aims to sell one million green vehicles in the next couple of years thereby strengthening its resolve in the domain of sustainable mobility.

To attain this goal, MSIL will offer a bouquet of options for customers comprising CNG, hybrids and electric cars. With the launch of CNG in 2010 and Smart Hybrid in 2015, MSIL has cumulatively sold one million green vehicles in India.

Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Mission Green Million is our commitment to bring advanced powertrain technologies for the Indian customers. In this mission, ‘Make in India’ will be our core philosophy. S-CNG and Smart Hybrid technologies on Maruti Suzuki cars have seen huge acceptance by customers. We have complete faith in the future of the Indian automotive market and will accelerate our efforts for electrification of powertrains, with a technology-agnostic approach. Our endeavor will be to offer realistic solutions for mass acceptance by customers.”

Concept Futuro-e, a part to realize the Mission Green Million, is a futuristic, dynamic and stylish coupé SUV concept. Concept Futuro-e demonstrates Maruti Suzuki’s perspective on reimagining future green mobility.

Ayukawa said, “Concept Futuro-e is a design study. It presents possibilities of a new global design language for the SUV segment. The segment has recently seen a tremendous surge in popularity. A coupé styled SUV is a first from Maruti Suzuki stable and we are confident customers will like it.”

Conceptualised and designed by Maruti Suzuki designers, Concept Futuro-e envisages a fresh design interpretation for the SUV segment, with a vision to provide enthralling and engaging design experience for India’s young and aspirational youth.

MSIL reached a key milestone of a whopping 20 million passenger vehicle cumulative sales in the Indian market, in less than 37 years of existence. While the Company succeeded in realizing the milestone of 10 million vehicle sales in close to 29 years, the next 10 million passenger vehicles were sold in a record time of eight years. A pioneer in the Indian automotive segment MSIL’s advocacy and adoption of green and smart technologies is a testament to its commitment to future generations.

Over the last decade, MSIL’s customers have steadily adopted the cleaner, greener and smarter technologies. Indeed with its wide portfolio and innovative technologies, over the last 10 years, MSIL has successfully achieved sales of over 1.15 million green vehicles.
