With a view to establish and promote the e-mobility ecosystem in India, EV Motors India (EVM), a Delhi-based energy and electric mobility solutions provider has signed an agreement with power distribution company (DISCOM) BSES Yamuna Power (BYPL) in New Delhi, to set up and operate charging stations for electric vehicles at select locations under jurisdiction of BYPL.
EVM which offers its services in electric mobility, smart city integration, energy management and telematics and data analytics, is planning on building an electric mobility landscape in the country including providing a connected network of its EV charging stations, the first of which was introduced in Gurgaon in November last year.
The company had launched its public EV charging outlet under the brand ‘PlugNgo’ in DLF Cybercity, Gurugram and now plans to install over 6,500 charging outlets, each with multiple charging stations, spread across cities, businesses and residential complexes across India, over the next five years.
Its association with Delhi’s BYPL is a resultant of this very roadmap and it views its efforts to likely accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the capital city. Under the agreement, EVM and BYPL will work jointly to create, operate and maintain charging infrastructure using PlugNgo’s innovative cloud-based integrated software platform, which will also include a payment gateway for availing the electric charging facility.
According to PR Kumar, CEO, BSES Yamuna Power, “Charging infrastructure for EV vehicles is the need of the hour. We are working with strategic partners to facilitate setting-up of charging stations in East and Central Delhi to bring in a change in the mobility landscape. This partnership with EV Motors India is a testimonial to these efforts. Through this association, we at BYPL aim to reiterate our commitment to energy efficiency, sustainable growth and strengthen our commitment to play a significant role in the EV Sector.”
BYPL being one of the major DISCOMs in Delhi is a joint venture between Reliance Infrastructure and the Delhi government. It caters to the energy needs of 1.7 million customers in east and central Delhi.
Commenting on the association, Arvind Gujral, CEO, EV charging infrastructure (PlugNgo), said, “We are delighted to partner with BYPL for collectively transforming the nation’s electric vehicle ecosystem. PlugNgo is committed towards reducing dependence on fossil fuel-based vehicles by offering energy-efficient solutions. This tie-up plays a major role in boosting the charging infrastructure in the capital thereby accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in the city.”
