The 8th-generation Hyundai Sonata has won three different design and tech awards. Here’s how Sonata dominated the U.S. market.
The 8th-generation Sonata has recognized by multiple awards in the U.S. It won Kelley Blue Book’s 2020 Best Auto Tech, the Transportation Design of 2019 GOOD DESIGN AWARD, and ALG’s 2020 Redesign of the Year.
Best Auto Tech of Kelly Blue Book is for the models with the best use of in-car technology. And Redesign of the Year of ALG is for having the strongest redesign based on overall degree of change and execution. The 69th GOOD DESIGN AWARD is one of the most prestigious awards in the U.S. Let’s find out how these committees saw the Hyundai Sonata.
For Having The Most Advanced Technology
Since 2016, Best Auto Tech Award by Kelley Blue Book has been a recognition designed to help car shoppers identify the models with the best use of in-car technology, such as the infotainment system or Advanced Driver Assistance System. The award honors the vehicles with the most convenient and innovative features at a great value.
All candidates should offer both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to ensure they are smartphone-friendly. The other important features they must house are the accuracy of GPS, the quality of the infotainment system, and intuitive User Interface.
The Hyundai Sonata and the Mercedes-Benz GLE have been awarded the 2020 Best Auto Tech Award by Kelley Blue Book. The award honors the vehicles with the best-advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and active safety features. The Hyundai Sonata offers standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto®, Bluetooth®, and an 8-inch LCD monitor. The Sonata comes standard with Hyundai’s latest SmartSense advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) – which includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) and Lane Following Assist (LFA).
One of the most intriguing options on the new Sonata Hybrid is the Hyundai Digital Key. This system, which uses a mobile app, allows the Sonata Hybrid to be locked, unlocked, started and driven without a physical key but via your smartphone. Other interior niceties include a 12.3-inch instrument cluster for the blind-spot monitoring. Kelley Blue Book said “Sonata is one of the most cost-effective yet convenient mid-sized sedans. Its features are not comparable with other competitors.”
Many Says The Most Innovative Design
Sonata won 2019 GOOD DESIGN awards for the third time in the Transportation category. Hyundai has been a GOOD DESIGN award winner for nine consecutive years including Sonata.

Seven models of Hyundai Motor Group – the Hyundai Sonata, Palisade, the Kia Telluride, Soul, Habaniro concept, the Genesis G90, Mint concept – won 2019 GOOD DESIGN awards in the Transportation category. “It is quite unprecedented that three totally different brands all win the GOOD DESIGN awards. Hyundai Motor Group will continue to satisfy our customers with top-notch designs” said Luc Donckerwolke, Executive Vice President, Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group.
Hyundai’s all-new 2020 Sonata was named Redesign of the Year by ALG. Since 1961, ALG has been an industry authority on automotive residual value projections in both the United States and Canada. The all-new Hyundai Sonata is ALG’s mainstream redesign of the year award winner. Exemplifying a whole new design direction for what a midsize sedan can be, the new Sonata sports an aggressive coupe-like stance that evokes a luxury sedan with Hyundai’s new “Sensuous Sportiness” design language, and is lower, wider, and longer than the previous generation. The new Sonata provides a slew of premium technology upgrades including Hyundai’s digital key to unlock and start the engine from a smartphone, remote smart park and wireless cell phone charging. The upscale accompaniments also extend to the interior with an available 12.3” digital instrument cluster and 10.25” infotainment display, alongside a button-based gear selector and premium materials throughout the cabin. The all-new Sonata elevates the standard midsize sedan onto another level.
The Hyundai Sonata has proven its high-tech features – the infotainment system or Driver Assistance System – and innovative design. As a mid-sized sedan, its achievement looks more meaningful in the SUV-dominant U.S. market. Sonata is gaining expectations once again.
