VW subsidiary: the first of its kind – Cupra unveils the Formentor

Aggressive look

The Cupra Formentor should also underline the sportiness of the brand.

Matroell Cupra is the name of Seat’s sporty label, which so far has dynamic variants of well-known series from the Spanish series VWDaughter sells. But Cupra should now become its own brand. A claim that the Spaniards now want to live up to with their first independent model, the compact SUV Formentor. Market launch is at the end of the year. The Formentor is not a surprise, as it already had last year VWDaughter presented a study.

Like this, the 4.45 meter long series version now offers an expressive, beaded sheet metal dress with a sporty look. Special features include a rear light that extends across the entire width of the rear and copper-colored 19-inch wheels that provide enough space for the 18-inch windows of the Brembo-Stopper offer.

There are also several exterior paints only for this model, including two matt colors. Thanks to the 2.68-meter wheelbase, the interior of the Formentor is said to offer plenty of legroom and headroom on all seats. There is space for 450 liters of luggage in the trunk. The interior welcomes its occupants with copper accents and brushed aluminum applications, among other things.

There are also LED light strips that serve as ambient lighting, as well as a digital cockpit and a 12-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard for the infotainment system. This masters the common connectivity technology and is always networked thanks to the integrated SIM card, which also allows the user remote access to his vehicle, climate pre-conditioning or localization function via smartphone app.

More valuable than Seat

The Formentor will start with high performance and equipment.

Sports room

The interior of the Formentor is sporty and digital.

In addition, the upcoming Cupra SUV is equipped with driving control aids such as emergency assistants or a predictive distance control. The Formentor will compete in two drive variants. With a 228 kW / 310 PS and 400 Newton meter strong 2.0 liter petrol engine, you are particularly sporty. As standard, the unit is combined with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.

Alternatively, there is a plug-in hybrid variant in which a 1.4-liter petrol engine and an electric motor are combined. In combination, the double heart mobilizes 180 kW / 245 PS and 400 Newton meters of torque. Thanks to a 13 kWh lithium-ion battery, purely electric driving with a range of up to 50 kilometers should be possible.

In both cases, the sporty driving experience is underlined by a specially tailored one DCC-Adaptive chassis and progressive steering. Cupra has not yet announced prices for the Formentor. In view of the equipment and motorization, these should start beyond 40,000 euros.
