Flensburg, March 4, 2020. In February, 239,943 Passenger cars (Passenger car) newly registered, -10.8 percent less than in the same month last year. Both commercial (66.8% / – 7.8%) and private New registrations (33.1% / – 16.1%) declined.
With the exception of Porsche (+19.1%), the declining number of registrations in February extended to all German Brands. Double-digit declines were seen in Smart (-81.2%), Opel (-20.6%), Audi (-20.3%), Ford (-18.5%), Mini (-15.4%) and VW (-11.1%). Only BMW (-1.2%) and Mercedes (-3.3%) recorded one-digit losses. With 18.5 percent, VW achieved the largest share of new registrations brand Lexus (+71.2%). There was double-digit growth at Volvo (+25.4%), Seat (+23.4%), Nissan (+14.9%), Fiat (+13.1%) and DS (+12.1%). Declines of more than 30 percent saw Honda (-39.4%), Tesla (-37.3%), Dacia (-36.6%), Mazda (-34.9%) and Suzuki (-34.7% ). The largest shares of new registrations for import brands were Skoda (6.2% / – 11.3%), Seat (4.7% / + 23.4%), Renault (3.9% / – 2.2%) and Hyundai (3.6% / – 7.7%).
There was growth in the segments Motorhomes (2.1% / + 50.2%), middle class (12.0% / + 12.4%) and utilities (5.5% / + 2.7%). In everyone else Segments the numbers were declining. Strongest share Segment was the compact class (20.8% / – 12.0%), closely followed by the SUVs (20.6% / – 10.4%) and the small cars (14.8% / – 11.7%). Off-road vehicles (10.1%) declined by -4.0 percent. The New registrations of the mini-vans (1.4% / – 45.4%), the minis (4.5% / – 38.1%) and the large-capacity vans (2.7% / – 33.0%) suffered the most strongest one. After a decline of -26.3 percent to 0.8 percent, the luxury class had the lowest proportion of new registrations.
More than half of the cars (52.1% / – 22.0%) were gasoline, 31.6 percent (-13.4%) had a diesel engine. Approval increases were seen in the alternative drive types. 8,154 new electric cars were registered in February – an increase of +75.8 percent. An increase of +98.1 percent brought 30,000 hybrid and thus a new registration share of 12.5 percent, including 8,354 plug-ins (+279.4%). For natural gas vehicles, which the registration statistics show with a share of 0.3 percent, there was an increase of +183.3 percent. The proportion of liquefied gas-powered cars was 0.0 percent (-93.3%) and the average CO2 emissions decreased by -4.8 percent to 149.6 g / km compared to the same month in the previous year.
In the commercial vehicle sector, the number of New registrations both Buses by +33.6 percent, other Motor vehicles (Motor vehicles) recorded an increase of +23.9 percent. The other types of commercial vehicles declined. The Tractors recorded a total decrease of -16.5 percent, with the decrease in Tractor units Amounted to -35.2 percent. Trucks (Truck) lost in the New registration -6.2 percent. Motorcycle registrations rose by +5.5 percent.
A total of 284,932 vehicles (-9.7%) and 23,056 Car trailer (-1.7%) newly registered.
The used car market in February was a total of +1.0 percent above the result of the previous month, whereby Buses and coaches (+48.4%), trucks (+9.3%) and cars (+1.3%) both recorded increases. The greatest decrease in the change of holder was in the Motorcycles registered (-12.5%).
