Milan / Hamburg Fiat Chrysler Shuts down production in most European plants for two weeks due to the corona virus epidemic. The Italian-American company announced on Monday that the Italian factories in Melfi, Pomigliano, Cassino, Mirafiori, Grugliasco and Modena would not work until March 27. Production in Kragujevac, Serbia, and the Tychy plant in Poland would also be closed. The temporary suspension enables the carmaker to respond effectively to the drop in demand.

Fiat Chrysler had already announced last week that the factories in Pomigliano, Melfi, Atessa and Cassino would be shut down for two days a week. Italy is particularly hard hit by the epidemic, restrictions on public life are now in place across the country.

Also at Volkswagen the effects of the epidemic are now becoming more noticeable. The border closures are increasingly challenging logistics, said a spokesman. In Spain it would VWPlant in Navarra and that of the VW subsidiary Seat in Martorell which was shut down. The US factory in Chattanooga will initially be shut down for a day to see which employees even showed up for work.
