Only 1,412 units have been registered compared to the 5,200 that were made on average in February 2019.
The coronavirus is already impacting vehicle registrations. According to data from M: YES for the management of dealers, Faconauto Collected by Europa Press, they have plummeted 73% on the first day of alarm by the coronavirus.
In this way, the consultant notes that the registrations of passenger cars and SUVs in Spain have stood at 1,412 units on Monday, the first business day after the state of alarm. This figure represents a reduction of 72.8% compared to February last year. In 2019, an average of 5,200 units were registered daily.
Of all the units registered (1,412), 346 vehicles were concentrated in the business channel. On the other hand, 953 units did it in the one of individuals and 113 vehicles, in the one of renters. The sharp decline compared to a normal working day is explained by the paralysis of the Spanish car market in the face of the coronavirus crisis.
When the dealerships were closed, the units that were registered this Monday correspond to operations that had already been closed previously. These were already paid, or their financing had been paid, and only their registration was missing.
March data will be negative
At the same time, MSI has released enrollment data so far in March. As they point out, car registrations stand at 33,129 units. This represents a reduction of 20.8% compared to the same period in 2019.
From Faconauto we have appealed to dealer liability recommending its closure after the establishment of the Alarm State. In this way, the sector is committed to the demand and responsibility to society that businessmen are asked to stop the expansion of the coronavirus. At the same time, the integrity of its clients and its employees is safeguarded.
