Uber’s Chief Technology Officer, Thuan Pham, is leaving the company, according to a filling with the Securities and Exchange Comission. Pham had been with the ride-hailing firm since 2013.
Multiple outlets are also reporting that Uber is pursuing cost-saving measures, including laying off about 20% of its staff. If that number is correct, about 5,400 employees would be left without jobs.
Uber’s core ride-hailing business has suffered as global shutdowns continue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While Uber’s food delivery business, Uber Eats, has seen an uptick in use as people stay home, it has failed to make up for the losses on the ride-hailing side.
