NEW DELHI: Home-grown electric vehicle and component maker Mahindra Electric on Monday resumed its operations. The company will utilize the 30 per cent capacity and gradually increase it to 50 per cent, a top executive informed ETAuto.

The company claims that since it produces all its components on its own, it hardly sees any supply chain issues when compared to its parent company Mahindra & Mahindra. So, it also expects normalcy in operations soon.

Mahesh Babu, MD & CEO, Mahindra Electric said, “As we resume operations, the safety of our employees at all the Mahindra Electric locations remains the top priority for us. We have taken care of implementing all the instructions of the Central and the State Government as well as the WHO-recommended measures to ensure employees feel safe to get back to work. We are operating at around 30% of our capacity and many officers are working from home. “

Headquartered in Bengaluru, the electric vehicle company has also opened its R&D centre with 30 per cent staff based on the MHA guidelines. Also, many employees based their roles are still working from home.

“Our supply chain is slowly coming back on track and we have commenced manufacturing of our indigenous Mahindra Treo range of electric three-wheelers. We are self-reliant as we develop most of the EV components in-house and as the government starts to relax the lockdown norms, we are certain to attain normalcy in manufacturing soon. The lockdown has further enhanced our vision of making affordable, customer-centric electric vehicle technology in India for the world.” Babu added

Mahindra Electric which has recently launched affordable electric hatchback eKUV 100 and Treo three-wheeler is in serious talks with many European OEMs to supply EV powertrains. Reportedly, the company is in talks with a few OEMs based in India as well. Officially, the company declined to comment on these reports.
