PSA Valenciennes increases its production of speed reducers to equip the group’s electric vehicles

Good news for the PSA site in Valenciennes. The manufacturer announced this Thursday, May 28, after a CSE that its production of “RG” speed reducers was – precisely – going into high gear.

What was, since February 2019, only a “micro-line that allowed us to test ourselves” with the production of prototypes, will expand. “What changes are the volumes. We are going to create a new complete line to go up to 600,000 units per year,” we explain to site communications. This represents four teams totaling 200 people.

Two cars already equipped, soon more

These speed reducers already equip two electric models – the Peugeot e-208 and the DS 3 Crossback E-tense– and their purpose is “to equip all of the PSA Group’s electric vehicles”, read a press release. “These reducers, associated with the electric machine produced on the PSA site in Trémery, and with batteries, constitute the traction chain essential to any electric vehicle.”

“Having obtained the exclusive production of speed reducers for all electrified motorizations is a recognition of our know-how, our competitiveness and our expertise in the field of gearboxes”, underlines the director of the Valenciennes site Vincent Baron, cited in the press release.

This new stage in the production of these parts was made possible by an agreement with the European Union and the Hauts-de-France region, via the European Regional Development Fund.
