Sales of electric vehicles used up to 1,362 units in 2017, representing a growth of 61.8% over the figures of the previous year, according to data from the National Association of Vehicle Dealers (Ancove).

In 2017, the purchase of more efficient used vehicles increased with respect to the previous year, however, Ancove ensures that it is still a “very residual” niche within the second-hand market, with annual sales of 14,186 units, 0.62% of total transactions.

Last year, 1,362 second-hand electric vehicles were sold, with a 61.8% growth compared to 2016, and 9,757 gasoline hybrids were transferred, 40.7% more, and 383 hybrid diesel units, growing 27.2%. In addition, 625 petrol plug-in hybrids were marketed, 81.7% more, and 28 diesel units, 300% more than in 2016.

In another type of propulsion, of ethanol, 11 units were sold on the second-hand market, 21.4% less than in 2016, while 149 vehicles were sold on pure gas, 2.1% more. A total of 1,549 units of gasoline-fueled gasoline vehicles were sold in 2017, growing by 10.4%, and 322 units of gasoline and alcohol, which represents a fall of 17.9%.

For its part, sales of the total second-hand market in Spain amounted to more than 2.27 million units last year, representing an increase of 9.4% over the figures of 2016, according to Ancove.

On the other hand, in the month of December, sales of used vehicles decreased by 3.2% compared to the same month of 2016, with 228,756 units sold.

As reported by the association, of the total of second-hand vehicles marketed in 2017, more than 1.96 million were passenger and off-road vehicles, 10.4% more than in 2016, and 313,451 units were light commercial vehicles, with an increase of 3 ,2%.

ANTIQUITY GROWS

Regarding the age of the vehicles, 59.74% of the units transferred in 2017 (1.36 million vehicles) exceeded 10 years old, a percentage that rises to 62.9% (197,154 units) when talking about light commercial vehicles. These data represent an increase of 14.5% compared to 2016.

“The sale of older vehicles is a double risk: on the one hand, they are units that pollute considerably more and with safety measures much lower than younger vehicles, but on the other hand, as Ancove has been warning for many months, the VO market of older vehicles is where they concentrate their activity the fake individuals, vendors pseudo-professional outside the law who are engaged in the repurchase without guaranteeing vehicles, “said the president of Ancove, ElĂas Iglesias.

In this context, the association has asked the Government to create a park rejuvenation plan that includes measures that favor the replacement of older vehicles with others that, although second hand, do not exceed 4 or 5 years.

“We must not forget that people who buy vehicles over 10 years old do so out of necessity, not for pleasure, they are citizens with the right to use a vehicle, even though they do not have the same economic autonomy,” added Iglesias.

Regarding the origin of the vehicles that have been sold on the second-hand market last year, Ancove highlights the growth of 25% of those from tactical registrations (kilometer 0) to 133,665 units, followed by imports that go up 22.6%, up to 82,001 vehicles.
