MG Motor India today commenced commercial production of the its Hector Plus, the seven-seater extension of the MG Hector SUV. The Hector Plus is manufactured at the company’s Halol plant, and will go on sale in July 2020.
The company says the Hector Plus differentiates itself from the first internet car in India, the Hector SUV, with captain seats in the middle row. A third row has also been added to suit the family needs. The Hector Plus gets new headlamps, front grille, front and rear bumpers, new rear tail-light design, and revised skid plates.
Speaking on the development, Manish Manek, chief plant officer, MG Motor India said, “The Hector Plus is aimed at addressing specific family needs with captain seats in the middle row and a third row for teenagers. Further augmenting the Hector brand family, the Hector Plus stands out as the smarter choice with advanced technology, best in-class safety, and unmatched comfort.”
The OEM says its Halol plant operates conforming to global manufacturing standards following production parameters beyond the current norm, with the vehicles undergoing various stringent quality tests. Further underlining its commitment to create products specifically for India, the carmaker had also set up a captive vendor park at its plant.
The Gujarat plant uses advanced robotic spot welding, robotic roller hemming, and robotic brazing facilities to achieve superior weld quality and dimensional consistency. The paint shop uses robotic application at all stages of coating to achieve superior paint finish quality and colour harmony. The new assembly line operates with the help of advanced Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) for various assembly processes. The company claims that the facility is the first in the industry to use touchscreen pads at each assembly workstation, enabling MG employees to connect and alert the system centrally to avoid errors, following the heritage brand’s ‘first time right build’ philosophy.
