The mocha can also be loaded via CCS.

Rüsselsheim With the second generation of the Opel Mokka will not only celebrate the new edition of the most important SUV of the Hesse in late summer, but also the new brand face, which everyone will see in the future OpelModels should wear. The centerpiece of the “Vizor” front design inspired by the motorcycle helmet visor is a dark-tinted plexiglass clasp that stretches across the entire width of the vehicle.

It not only functions as a recognition feature and eye-catcher, but also houses the sensors of the assistance systems in addition to the headlights and lightning logo. Otherwise, the mini SUV comes completely redesigned. Compared to its predecessor, it is almost 13 centimeters shorter (4.15 meters), and at the same time becomes wider and flatter. Because of this and because of the shrunk body overhangs, this generation appears more dynamic and compact than the first edition.

The fact that mocha is changing so much also has to do with a fundamental change in architecture: instead GM-Technik uses the new Mokka the CMP platform of the new parent company PSA, on which already the sister model Peugeot Based in 2008. The Opel wants to stand out visibly from the French relative. Not just outside, but also inside.

A puristic and reduced style is now moving in there, which should also shape future models of the brand. The most important element in the dashboard is a horizontal information panel composed of several screens, which among other things replaces the classic instruments. Opel calls it “Pure Panel”: the displays are intended to clearly show the driver all the important information and reduced it to the essentials. In return, the number of switches and buttons in the cockpit drops significantly.

Digitized

There is a large screen inside, but hardly any switches.

While the body and interior are demonstratively independent, Opel uses the group technology under the sheet metal. From the start of the market in early 2021, there will also be the electric drive with 100 kW / 136 hp known from Opel Corsa-e and Peugeot e-208. The range should be up to 322 kilometers.

Alternatively, gasoline and diesel with three and four cylinders and output values between around 100 and 150 hp are likely to be available. Opel does not yet give details.

The Rüsselsheim-based company already lists a few equipment items, among others there will be an optional matrix LED light. The Opel Mokka can be ordered – the name suffix “X” is no longer required when the model is changed – from late summer, but it will only be delivered in the coming year. The prices should be based on those of the Peugeot 2008, which currently starts at just under 21,500 euros. The e-model is currently available for a good 35,000 euros.
