Piaggio cuts 73% its profit until June, with 9.1 million euros

PONTEDERA (ITALY), Jul 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian group Piaggio obtained a net profit of 9.1 million euros during the first half of this year, which represents a decrease of 73% compared to the 34.6 million euros it earned during the first six months of 2019 .

According to data from the company that includes brands such as Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera or Aprilia, these figures are marked by the coronavirus pandemic, which forced the suspension of production and sales for several weeks in many countries around the world.

“The Piaggio group continues to invest and does so to improve the quality and technology of all its products in the world. Clearly, the current difficult situation requires a firm approach and pragmatic management of the future, but we have to continue,” claimed the president of the firm, Roberto Colaninno.

Between January and June, Piaggio billed 600.1 million euros, which represents a drop of 26.5% compared to the 817 million that entered in the same months of 2019.

Thus, Piaggio’s operating profit stood at 24.7 million euros, 67% less, while the company’s operating margin was 4.1%, far from 9.2% in the first half of last year .

Among other figures, the profit before taxes of the Italian firm was 15.1 million euros, 76% less, after the company sold 210,300 vehicles worldwide, 34.5% less.

For all these reasons, Colaninno has highlighted the importance of taking advantage of the “interesting opportunity” that now arises after the coronavirus pandemic to adapt and transform towards the mobility of the future.
