Arlington: RAPID autonomous driving project

The city of Arlington, Texas is testing a new autonomous driving project: RAPID.

After three years, a new Autonomous Test Project is coming to Arlington, Texas. It is an on-demand service called RAPID.

The project could be extended to the entire city. But first, public opinion is obtained. The project is funded with $ 1.7 million by the Federal Transportation Administration financed. The vehicles come from the start-up May Mobility and the algorithm for the on-demand service provides Via. The University of Texas Arlington is also involved in RAPID.

The vehicles will run barrier-free and free of charge. This also aims to promote acceptance of the technology. The Milo project had already been introduced three years ago and the start-up has since been launched Drive.ai on board, which is now from Apple was bought up.

The previous projects helped the city refine the program. With the new data, they want to cover the entire city with the project in one year.
