SHANGHAI – Chevrolet today launched the refreshed Equinox midsize SUV in China. It comes with 22 upgraded features, from its styling and powertrain to its connectivity and safety.
Six new variants, including three RS models as well as a choice of six exterior colors and three interior options, range in price from RMB 169,900 to RMB 239,900. The Equinox is backed by an eight-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty for major engine and transmission parts, and comes with 100G of free OnStar data service every year.
“Today’s midsize SUV buyers want a vehicle that meets all of their needs,” said Scott Lawson, general director of Chevrolet for SAIC-GM. “The new Equinox delivers, starting with its new design, powertrain combination, locally tuned chassis and RS series. It is joining the Blazer, Tracker and Trailblazer in Chevrolet’s SUV family, giving the brand a presence across the small, compact, midsize and mid-large mainstream SUV segments to meet the different needs of buyers nationwide.”
The Equinox is GM’s best-selling SUV, with more than 3.8 million sold worldwide since its launch in 2004. In the J.D. Power 2019 and 2020 Initial Quality Study, the Equinox earned the highest scores among the Top 10 Consumer-Rated SUVs, based on the independent and unbiased opinions of verified vehicle owners.
A Redesigned Look and New RS Series
Representing Chevrolet’s latest SUV design language, the new Equinox has sportier and more aggressive exterior styling and a more technologically advanced interior design.
To meet the personalized needs of younger consumers, the newly added RS series comes equipped with black Chevrolet bowtie logos, a black stereo grille with an RS-exclusive red logo, exclusive black RS EQUINOX nameplates and 19-inch black 10-spoke sporty wheels. Inside, it has a sporty steering wheel with a black bowtie, a sporty gear lever embossed with the RS-exclusive rivalry red logo, and rivalry red perforated leather sports seats with bright red stitching along with RS-exclusive red logos.
The Equinox has a length of 4,646 millimeters, width of 1,843 millimeters, height of 1,695 millimeters and wheelbase of 2,725 millimeters. Its roomy interior has 26 storage spaces and 1,505 liters of cargo space. The large starry sky panoramic sunroof covering 76% of the roof area provides passengers a more relaxing ride.
High-Performance Powertrain Combinations
The new Equinox offers two propulsion systems for different driving performance preferences.
The new Equinox RS series is equipped with GM’s eighth-generation Ecotec 2.0L intelligent variable cylinder turbocharged engine and a new nine-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. The high-performance powertrain combination delivers maximum power of 174 kW @ 5,000 rpm and maximum torque of 350 Nm @ 1,500-4,000 rpm, and allows the Equinox RS to go from 0-100 kilometers/hour in 7.9 seconds. Its fuel consumption is as low as 6.9 liters/100 kilometers.
Customers may also choose a 1.5T top-mounted direct injection turbocharged engine paired with a six-speed DSS start/stop transmission. This powertrain combination produces fuel consumption as low as 6.8 liters/100 kilometers.
In addition, the new Equinox is equipped with a powerful intelligent four-wheel-drive system with optional active front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive functions for strong power output. The SUV’s 19-inch Goodyear low rolling resistance tires have excellent grip and further enhance the vehicle’s capability on low-traction roads and its driving stability.
Technologically Advanced Safety and Connectivity
The new Equinox has been comprehensively upgraded in terms of intelligent technology, leading the segment with 62 safer, smarter and more comfortable standard features.
The advanced safety technologies include Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Parking Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Change Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Auto High Beam Assist, Following Distance Indicator, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking. It also has a full-feature electronic stability system with the E-Boost electronic auxiliary braking system.
Chevrolet’s new MyLink+ in-vehicle infotainment system helps take SUV comfort to a new level. It supports Apple CarPlay, Baidu CarLife and Bluetooth, and provides over-the-air (OTA) upgrades, Super ID and smart navigation, entertainment, music, news, and real-time weather and traffic through in-vehicle apps.
To provide a more comfortable experience, the new Equinox comes with USB ports, including Type-C, in the front and rear rows. They support the requirements of different types of electronic devices. At the same time, users can enjoy front seat ventilation and heating, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a PM2.5 air filtration system, Active Noise Cancellation technology and the premium Bose theater system.
The new Equinox will be displayed along with other Chevrolet models on the brand’s stand at Auto China 2020 in Beijing, which runs from September 26 to October 5.
