GAC Honda to recall imported vehicles over faulty airbag

BEIJING – GAC Honda, the joint venture between Honda and Guangzhou Automobile Group, will recall 50 imported vehicles due to defective airbags, according to China’s top quality watchdog.

The recall is for imported Fit hybrids manufactured between July 5, 2012 and March 1, 2013, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

Airbags facing the front passenger seat on these vehicles may malfunction when they expand, causing the gas generators to break, and posing safety risks to drivers and passengers, said AQSIQ.

The automaker will replace the gas generators in airbags for the affected vehicles free of charge.

The recall will begin on April 12.
