ZARAGOZA, 10 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the works council of the PSA plant in Figueruelas (Zaragoza), Rubén Alonso, has indicated that “nothing suggested” that the production capacity of the factory would recover “as soon”, after the lines had to be two months stopped by the health crisis.
The factory began its activity again on May 11 progressively. This process ended on October 4, when the plant started up a team on the night shift on Line 1, to produce the Opel Crossland X and Citroën C3 Aircross. In this way, the factory returned to the production figures of before the pandemic.
“At the moment, nothing suggested that we were going to recover production capacity so soon, but the market is responding very well, even with the COVID pandemic.” Thus, Alonso recalled that this has led to the hiring of some 150 people and even the renewal of the contract of other colleagues who were on temporary contracts: “It is very positive news for the plant.”
Alfonso has emphasized the importance of working to create and maintain employment, while recalling that, in these moments of health crisis, the market is “very volatile.”

In this way, he remarked that “although today there is an increase in sales, it is not known if tomorrow we will have to stop production, as in March, because more countries have been confined by outbreaks, or whatever”. For this reason, he wished that “I hope a vaccine will come out soon that will stabilize this whole situation and the economy.”
To restart production, the PSA plant in Figueruelas put in place a large number of protocols to prevent regrowth within its facilities. Alonso has remarked that they are working “perfectly”.
“Zero risk does not exist, but everyone uses the mask, the hydroalcoholic gels, there is a temperature measurement when entering work, the truth is that everyone is responding one hundred percent by complying with the safety protocols in the plant” .
Rubén Alonso has been appointed president of the works council at the PSA plant in Figueruelas, replacing Sara Martín who leaves in the position after being elected new general secretary of the Federation of Industry, Construction and Related (FICA) of UGT in the aforementioned Zaragoza factory.
