Diess: Autonomous driving from 2025

The head of the VW group believes autonomous driving will be a reality in five years.

In the last few years, there was hardly any planning when autonomous driving would hit the road. Some of the manufacturers who were full of enthusiasm, already gave on. Now there is another deadline by when the technology should be ready.

The VW boss Diess told the “Wirtschaftswoche” that one 2025 so far. The reason for this would be the improvement in computer chips, which double in performance every year and a half. The performance promotes the AI, which is also getting better.

These two components made it possible to master complex situations, so that autonomous driving is also possible in cities. But the beginning will be autonomous shuttles and commercial vehicles do.
