New GM logo met with criticism on social media: ‘Looks like Windows Word Art from the 2000s’

General Motors unveiled its new logo on Friday, and the change was met with criticism.

“Did they dig this out of a trash can from 1995? The hell?” one Facebook user said about the new logo.

The company changed the former blue square logo and launched a new website to reflect GM’s new “Everybody In” campaign. This is the fifth logo change for the company. The last time GM overhauled the logo was in 1964.

The new campaign is an effort by GM to change gears from making mostly internal combustion vehicles to offering a wider selection of electric vehicles. According to the Free Press, the logo’s new color is meant to “evoke the cleaner skies a zero-emissions future will bring.”

“The new logo is meant to be a modernized version of GM’s trademark blue square, while still giving a nod to GM’s heritage,” the Free Press reported earlier Friday
