General Motors unveiled its new logo on Friday, and the change was met with criticism.
“Did they dig this out of a trash can from 1995? The hell?” one Facebook user said about the new logo.
The company changed the former blue square logo and launched a new website to reflect GM’s new “Everybody In” campaign. This is the fifth logo change for the company. The last time GM overhauled the logo was in 1964.

The new campaign is an effort by GM to change gears from making mostly internal combustion vehicles to offering a wider selection of electric vehicles. According to the Free Press, the logo’s new color is meant to “evoke the cleaner skies a zero-emissions future will bring.”
“The new logo is meant to be a modernized version of GM’s trademark blue square, while still giving a nod to GM’s heritage,” the Free Press reported earlier Friday.
Here are some of the best reactions from social media users about the new change:
On Facebook, user Chris Markel said, “Congrats to the 5th grader who won his class a pizza party,” in regards to the new design.
Equating the new design with an elementary school student’s drawing was a popular comparison among the throng of Facebook comments.
Facebook user Troy Simmer said: “Dang, who’s five year old won the design contest?”
Another widely used digital-diss among the Freep’s Facebook comments was comparing the logo’s lettering to an early 2000s Microsoft word or Windows font.
Facebook user John Holeva said: “Let’s just go with the first font art in Microsoft Word,” and user Andrew Makowski said, “Looks like windows word art from the 2000s.”
Other people poked fun at GM’s choice to go with lower-case letters this time around.
“Finally GM turned caps off, hopefully, people will hear them better now,” user Oscar Renautt said on Facebook.
Among the jokes, many people were plain blunt with their thoughts about the new imagery. Facebook user Michael Green said, “This logo looks weak,” and Tomas Diaz said, “This new logo SUCKS!”
Despite the jokes, many people expressed excitement about GM’s new electric future.
“It’s kind of a bland logo but I am ready for electric vehicles!” Mitchell Defay said. “Loving a lot of the concepts coming out from non-big three and Tesla contenders!”
