Tata Motors has formally unveiled the new avatar of the iconic Tata Safari. In a flag-off ceremony held today, the first Safari rolled out of the assembly line from the manufacturing plant in Pune. With this, the company has revived the popular SUV that India was first introduced over 20 years ago in 1998.
Unveiling the new Tata Safari, Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD, Tata Motors said, “The Safari is our flagship offering to connect the aspirations of the discerning and evolved Indian customer. It had introduced India to the SUV lifestyle and in its new avatar, will carry forward this rich idea to build further its legacy. The new Tata Safari is ideal for families and groups with a multifaceted lifestyle, who prefer to drive together for work or leisure, as it offers an unmatchable combo of an exceptionally strong lineage, robust build quality, premium finishes and the 4Ps of Power, Performance, Presence and Prestige to ‘Reclaim Your Life’. We look forward to making the Safari rule the Indian roads once again.”
The new Safari uses the company’s Impact 2.0 design language to enhance the iconic Safari’s unique and domineering stance in this new avatar. Upfront, the grille is finished in a meshed pattern and also bears the design language’s humanity line smile. The headlamps are present in split housings in the front bumper and on the side, the imposing wheel arches as well as stepped roof towards the third row bring unmistakable resemblance to the original Tata Safari SUV.
On the inside, Tata has brought in a rich Oyster White interior theme, along with an Ash Wood dashboard. The company says it is specially designed and developed for the socially active, fun loving customer group, who seek unique experiences and adventure.
The new Safari is being targeted to satisfy the new age SUV customers, who demand arresting design, unparalleled versatility, plush and comfortable interiors, outstanding performance for a modern, multifaceted lifestyle.
Digital configurator
Given the nature of contactless vehicle purchases being on the upswing, Tata Motors has introduced a Tata Safari Imaginator suite to allow prospective customers to remotely access the different facets of the SUV. Customers can now use their mobile phones and and take a walk around the new Safari or choose to step inside it for a fully immersive experience, in their preferred environment for a real-life like feel.
The interiors get superior in-touch interfaces to add more intriguing details as well as purposeful aesthetics. Tata’s tri-arrow motifs offer a unique design element while offering an uncluttered look to the cabin.
Built tough
The new Tata Safari is built on the Land Rover-derived Omega platform which also underpins the Tata Harrier. While the Harrier is a five-seater SUV, the Safari with its 63mm longer and 80mm taller dimensions will also include an extra third-row of seating to offer room for 7 occupants inside the cabin.
The SUV is also expected to get a four-wheel drive system and deploy the 2.0-litre diesel motor from the Harrier, developing 170bhp. The engine will come mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
In terms of safety, Tata is likely to offer six airbags, ESC, hill-start-assist and corner-stability control in the top variants. Tata Motors will open the bookings of the new Safari soon.
