New Delhi: December 2020 brought some cheer to the carmakers as the passenger vehicle segment posted a double-digit growth of 13.59% at 2,52,998 units compared to 2,22,728 units in the same month last year, according to the numbers shared by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM)
It is to be noted that there is the low base effect of last year as most of the automakers were producing less and reducing inventory at dealerships to transit to BS-VI norms.
In December, overall two-wheeler sales rose by 7.42% to 11,27,917 units compared to 10,50,038 units in the year-ago month.

SIAM figures showed that the contraction in sales during December was majorly for three-wheelers which saw a decline of 58.87% to 22,126 units.
The overall industry, excluding commercial vehicles, registered 5.76% growth in wholesale dispatches at 1,403,041 units as compared to 1,326,504 units in the same month last year, as per the SIAM data.
