Lewis Hamilton contract: Ola Kallenius caused problem for Toto Wolff that delayed deal – Daily Express

Lewis Hamilton is expected to sign a new contract with Meredes soon after months of talks with his team and Toto Wolff. However, it has been claimed that Daimler AG president, Ola Kallenius, has set Wolff strict demands over the Briton’s new deal.

It is understood that demands from Ola Kallenius delayed Toto Wolff’s contract offer to Lewis Hamilton as the Mercedes saga rumbles on.

World champion Hamilton is thought to be on the brink of signing a new deal with Mercedes, where he has won six of the last seven Formula One seasons.

The Briton has been hesitant whether to stay on at Mercedes, while at 36 he is nearing the twilight of his career.

But Spanish website Motorsport also claim that president of Daimler AG, Ola Kallenius, has made life difficult for Wolff over the contract agreement.

“I don’t assume that,” he said when asked whether he thinks Hamilton’s contract will be three years.

“We see in the near future a development not only with the cost cap but also with the technical regulation and you have to keep your eyes open, so we are still discussing what the right term is.”

Hamilton was dominant last season, winning his seventh world title. He won 11 of the 16 races he started, making the podium in 14 of them, and never finished outside the points.
