Uber has increased its focus on deliveries in the past year as it attempts to become the Amazon of local commerce.
“If Amazon owns next-day, Uber can own next-hour,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a recent interview with Eric Newcomer.
Following Uber’s recently announced acquisition of the alcohol-delivery startup Drizly for $1.1 billion, PitchBook mobility analyst Asad Hussain said he believes Uber will most likely keep its focus on deliveries if it continues to buy startups in the future.
“I think what’s going to really inform their acquisition strategy is, how can we compete with the other delivery companies?” he told Insider. “Not just the DoorDashes and the goPuffs of the world, but also the Amazons, Walmarts, and Targets.”
According to Hussain, these six startups would be a good fit for Uber’s delivery ambitions.
