The French car market is bogged down in gloom

Worn out by the restrictions linked to the health situation, the French have no morale, and the automobile market suffers. New car registrations fell 20.95% in February, according to figures released this morning by the Committee of French Automobile Manufacturers (CCFA), with 132,637 units sold.

Several factors explain this depression. According to the CCFA, the decrease in registrations reflects the decline in orders recorded by manufacturers in the second half of the year, which according to the organization corresponds to a tendency of households to defer their heavy purchases. In addition, as the firm AAA Data points out, registrations made by short-term rental companies fell by 55% over one year, consequences of the collapse of their activity due to the pandemic.
