New Delhi: Pierer Mobility AG and Bajaj Auto Limited are strengthening their 15-year long strategic cooperation to develop electric two-wheelers to meet the growing demand for innovative e-mobility solutions.
This renewed strategy will be centered on the development of common electric platforms to deliver the advantage of scale for all critical components, allowing both the companies to adapt to the evolving customer needs globally, Pierer Mobility said in a statement.
In June 2019, KTM Industries AG and Bajaj Auto Ltd. had decided to initiate a serial production project for PTW (“Powered two-wheeler”) electric vehicles in the power range of 3kW to 10 kW (48 volt) at the level of KTM AG. The platform is said to support different product variants – scooters, mopeds, and small mopeds, under the brands of both the partners.
Moving at pace, the initial output from this manufacturing impetus will see the first of these shared platform vehicles in the beginning of 2022. This involves an open approach to all battery opportunities, aiding the parallel advantage of both the fixed and swappable solutions, it further added.
In December 2020, Bajaj Auto Ltd restarted talks to transfer its stake in KTM AG to the Austrian motorcycle maker’s parent firm Pierer Mobility AG for simplification of the shareholding structure.
Currently, Pierer and Bajaj, via its unit Bajaj Auto International Holdings BV, hold around 51.7% and 48% stake, respectively, in KTM, Bajaj Auto said in a stock market disclosure. Pierer Industrie AG, a part of the Pierer Group, holds over 60% in Pierer Mobility.
