Waymo, a subsidiary of the Google parent company Alphabet, wants to carry out its autonomous driving services in future with electric cars and has selected the Jaguar I-Pace. Up to 20,000 pieces are to be used for the driving service.

Waymo and Jaguar have introduced new, autonomous and all-electric vehicles. The basis for this is the I-Pace from Jaguar, which was introduced to the world public only a few weeks ago and will be available to dealers this year. He was equipped for the driving service with a sensor module on the roof. The SUV offers enough space for the technology and a large battery. So far, Waymo relied on the Van Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, which is equipped with an internal combustion engine.

John Krafcik, Chief of Waymo, share withthat his company plans to add up to 20,000 I-Pace to Waymo’s fleet in the coming years. In the first two years of production, up to 20,000 I-Pace will be built, which will be available to the users of the Waymo driverless driver service. This corresponds to a promotion potential of up to one million trips per day.

Waymo had already carried out a pilot program in the US state of Arizona with the People in self-driving cars can drive to their destinations – similar to a taxi operation.

At first, another employee came along, who was able to intervene if necessary. Since November 2017, the vehicles have operated without a driver during test operation. The rides are currently free but one new US state approval allows Waymo to take money in the future. It was issued before the fatal Uber accident.
