- Ford Motor Company and the UAW have secured contracts in three key metro areas – Southeast Michigan, Kansas City, Mo., and Lima, Ohio – to offer on-site COVID-19 vaccines to hourly and salaried employees, and plan to expand to additional locations
- Ford is working with the UAW and various health providers, including Rite Aid, Liberty Memorial Health System and Lima Memorial Health System, to administer first and second doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines
- Providing voluntary on-site COVID-19 vaccines for employees is the most recent in a host of health and safety measures the company and the UAW have developed to help keep the workforce safe; these include daily health surveys, temperature screenings, mask requirements and encouraging employees to stay home if they don’t feel well
DEARBORN, Mich., April 19, 2021 – Ford employees interested in being vaccinated against COVID-19 can now receive an on-site vaccination at manufacturing facilities in three states. Starting today, Ford and the UAW are offering the vaccine program to employees in Southeast Michigan and will provide the shot to employees in the Lima, Ohio, and Kansas City, Mo., areas as well.
The on-site vaccination program is another step in the ongoing efforts to help employees finish strong in the battle against COVID-19. With all states now opening vaccine eligibility to residents age 16 and older, appointments are in demand and fill up quickly on a day-to-day basis. Hourly and salaried employees who are having difficulty finding an appointment now need to look no further as Ford is opening appointments at its on-site locations.
“It has been a stressful experience finding a COVID-19 vaccine appointment in the area,” said Jeri Feeman-Veldhoff, quality inspector at Michigan Assembly Plant. “Now that stress has been lifted with Ford offering on-site appointments for its employees. I can’t wait to get my first shot.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, getting vaccinated in combination with other recommendations issued results in the best protection against COVID-19. Ford and the UAW are encouraging employees to get a COVID-19 vaccine if they are medically able to do so.
In Southeast Michigan, Ford and the UAW are working with Rite Aid to administer the Moderna vaccine to employees. Clinics are being organized at Flat Rock Assembly Plant, Ernest Lofton Fitness Center at the Rouge Site, Van Dyke Transmission Plant and Rawsonville Components Plant. Ford and the UAW are working with Lima Memorial Health System to administer the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to employees at the Lima Engine Plant in Ohio. In Missouri, Ford and the UAW are working with Liberty Memorial Health System to make the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine available to employees at Kansas City Assembly Plant.
“COVID-19 vaccines are a major tool to help reduce the risk of infection, so we want to ensure our employees have access to vaccines,” said Dr. Francesca Litow, Ford corporate medical director. “We are grateful to partner with various health providers across the country to protect the health and safety of our workforce and finish strong together.”
Ford is providing a digital scheduling system for employees to sign up for an appointment and to inform them what proof of identification they must bring. Employees are automatically scheduled for a second dose when they receive their first dose. Ford volunteers will be at each vaccination site to help with the event.
The on-site vaccine program begins today at Flat Rock Assembly Plant and will continue at various locations through June. Ford and the UAW are planning to add more COVID-19 vaccine sites at other facilities across the country.
