Panasonic’s nearly-exclusive, longtime relationship with electric vehicle giant Tesla has been nothing but great for the battery manufacturer. The relationship has driven Panasonic’s profitability forecast up by about 30% this year.
But the battery titan isn’t likely to remain content with just one partner, the Financial Times reported in March. “At some point, we need to graduate from our one-legged approach of relying solely on Tesla,” Kazuhiro Tsuga, who stepped down as CEO last month, told the paper. (He was replaced by Yuki Kusumi, who previously ran Panasonic’s automotive business.)
And so, as automakers tout grand plans to pump out scads of EVs in the coming years, the battery company may look to make new friends and expand its grasp on the budding market. Those expanded ambitions seem well within its ability, but call for a strong workforce that can compete in an industry that is heating up.
To see how much those workers are worth to Panasonic, Insider analyzed data that the company’s North America arm reported to the US government in 2020. The data represents a range or average among employees across the country, and makes clear that certain jobs within the company can take you well into the six-figure range.
Here’s what the industry titan pays some of its employees:
