BENGALURU: The Karnataka transport department has decided to waive motor vehicle tax for commercial vehicles in the state for the month of May.
Deputy CM and transport minister Laxman Savadi said: “The government imposed a lockdown due to Covid second wave. We have decided to exempt commercial vehicles from paying MV tax during May.”
K Radhakrishna Holla, president, Karnataka State Travel Operators Association, said: “Relief for one month is not enough since the lockdown began in April itself. We are demanding exemption from April to December 2021 due to the lack of business because of the lockdown.”
He said the government has also denied relief aid to private bus drivers and conductors despite the industry facing a crisis.
