Hatcher+, a Singapore-based venture investment platform, has teamed up with Australian private investment firm Wholesale Investor to launch a A$10 million ($7.7 million) venture capital fund that will invest in startups in Australia and New Zealand, according to an announcement.
The fund seeks to invest in technology companies ranging from the formation stage through the Series A round, in partnership with incubators, accelerators, and research groups.
It targets at least 50 startups in the ANZ region, with a portion of the A$10 million reserved for international startups.
The fund will primarily follow the Hatcher+ approach to venture investing – a strategy designed by data scientists to deliver predictable returns and one that has attracted investors such as Coca-Cola Amatil, Midis Group, and Mistletoe Group.
“The early-stage investment scene is going through a period of massive growth and investors are no longer looking to simply be passive participants – they want to add value in addition to capital, form groups with like-minded individuals and family offices, and get direct access to meaningful data,” said Hatcher+ founding partner John Sharp.
Portfolio companies will also gain access to the Wholesale Investor, which covers an ecosystem of over 31,000 investors, dealmakers, and professional services to access capital, expertise, and scale their businesses through later-stage growth and exits, the announcement added.
Based in Singapore, Hatcher+ is a data-driven global VC firm that uses deep learning and partnerships with early-stage investors to invest in top startup companies.
It has invested in over 104 companies, including software platform DropSuite, SaaS solution for automotive industry CarServ, and tech-focused nicotine addiction control firm Hava Health.
Wholesale Investor, on the other hand, is an Australian investment platform that connects emerging, pre-IPO, and listed companies.
