Ford will introduce an all-new compact pickup to its model lineup June 8.
“Months of rumors, spy shots and speculation have all led to this moment. It’s true – Ford is adding an all-new compact pickup to the lineup, and it’s called Maverick,” the company said in a statement June 3.
The speculation dates as far back as January 2019, when Jim Farley, at the time Ford’s president of global markets, confirmed at the Deutsche Bank Global Auto Industry Conference that a truck smaller than the Ranger was in the works.
Ford last used the Maverick nameplate in North America in the 1970s on a compact, rear-wheel drive car.
