Biju Balendran, MD, RNAIPL: “Around 3,912 parts including seats, mufflers and steel parts are currently exported. We also export stamping parts to Egypt and Russia and bumpers to Egypt.”
The Renault Nissan Alliance’s connect with India goes beyond the massive 480,000 vehicles per annum plant in Oragadam, Chennai, which also has a engine and gearbox manufacturing capacity of 750,000 units. The Alliance’s India operation – Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd – is successfully shipping made-in-India components to Alliance plants worldwide.
It is learnt that Renault Nissan Automotive India exports around 3,912 parts from its Chennai plant to other group plants worldwide. This includes 2C, 3C engine parts, stamping parts and bumpers.
Speaking to Autocar Professional, Biju Balendran, Managing Director of Renault Nissan Automotive India, said, “Around 26 of our suppliers are just around the boundary. This (exports) includes seats, mufflers, steel parts and more. Around 3,912 parts are currently exported to other countries. They include 2C, 3C engine parts and we also export stamping parts to Egypt, Russia and a few other countries. Bumpers are exported to Egypt.”
Adding more, he says: “Then there are other car parts made by our Indian suppliers and exported, where our team just supports the programme. There has been a three-fold increase in the past three years. It will be growing much more down the line.”
The recent launches of Nissan India’s new Magnite and Renault India’s Kiger have given a new charge to the RNAIPL plant. Among the highlights of the facility is the high level of connectivity. Right from the moment despatches start, it is tracked day and night till it reaches its dealer. And, there is no paperwork until the final stage.
“We have also got the entire facility mapped. So, the moment a driver parks the car, he scans and marks the place of the car, colour and specs. The next day, when someone wants a specific car we can easily identify it. We know where it is parked and we can get the car much quicker . We also have the entire database from the batch production. So if something is wrong, we can go back to the supplier and do the necessary changes,” says Balendran.
