Chandigarh: Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala said on Wednesday that the state could be a leader in manufacturing electric vehicles if it prepared a special cluster.
He said this after a long video conference with automobile makers on the formulation of an ‘e-vehicle policy’. Principal secretary for industries and commerce Vijayendra Kumar, department’s director general Saket Kumar, and transport commissioner Amitabh Dhillon were present. Dushyant said suggestions from the automobile companies will be important inputs for the proposed policy.
He said the government was keen to use more ‘e-vehicles’ in its secretariats in big cities such as Chandigarh, Panchkula, Gurgaon, and Faridabad. He called for making e-charging stations and using battery-operated tractors in agriculture, like it was done in horticulture. tnn
The deputy CM also launched a pilot scheme for selling fast-moving consumer goods through fair-price depots in Sirsa, Fatehabad, Karnal, Yamunanagar, and Panchkula districts.
