Simple Energy’s Hosur plant to have production capacity of million e-scooters in Phase 1

Bangalore-based Simple Energy, which is set to launch its tech-laded sporty electric scooter christened ‘Simple One’ on August 15, has announced that it will be setting up its production plant at Hosur, Tamil Nadu. 

The Simple One will be available in phased-manner starting with Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad followed by other cities in the coming months. As per the product specs revealed, the Simple One will have a 4.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, a claimed range of 240km in eco mode, top speed of 100kph, and 0-50kph acceleration in 3.6 seconds. Other key features a mid-drive motor along with a removable battery and futuristic design. It will also come with features like a touchscreen, on-board navigation and Bluetooth, among others. While the exact pricing has not yet been announced, the e-scooter is expected to be in the range of Rs 110,000 to Rs 120,000.

The EV start-up says the work has begun for setting up the factory and the aim is to start production from later this year. Simple Energy claims that it plans to invest over Rs 350 crore in the next two years to increase its footprint across-India. 

As per the EV maker the first phase of the factory is spread across 200,000 sqft and will have a production capacity of up to million units annually. Simple Energy says the plant will create 1,000 jobs.
