Vespa turns 75, Piaggio launches special edition model in India

Piaggio India, which manufactures the Vespa scooter at its Baramati plant in Maharashra, is celebrating 75 years of the iconic Vespa brand. To mark the milestone, the company today launched the Vespa 75th Edition in India which is available with both 125cc and 150cc engines, like other Vespa variants.

The main highlight of the celebratory edition is the unique ‘Glossy Metallic Giallo’ colour, which is accompanied by ‘dark smoke grey’ seats. The scooters also come with a ‘welcome kit’ that includes a bag with collectible postcards and a vintage Vespa sign.

Other styling highlights include the number 75 decals on the side panels, front fender and glovebox. There is also a retractable chrome rack designed to look like the spare wheel carrier from older Vespa models. It also features a machined finish on its wheels and a windscreen.

While the 125cc version will develop 9.93hp at 7500rpm and 9.6Nm at 5500rpm, the 150cc model will produce 10.4hp at 7600rpm and 10.6Nm of torque at 5500rpm.  Braking is via a 200mm disc in front and a 140mm drum at the rear. While the 150 gets ABS, the 125 makes do with CBS.

Diego Graffi, chairman and MD, Piaggio India said, “Being always fresh, vibrant, young and unconventional, the Vespa 75th edition celebrates the iconic history and special values of Vespa and depicts them with special execution. As we are celebrating the value of independence through Vespa 75th, it also embarks Vespa’s journey in India at the time India celebrates 75 years of independence.”

The special edition Vespa is available across all Vespa dealerships in and can be booked for an initial amount of Rs 5,000 and through the e-commerce website. https://shop.vespaindia.com
