Charging plug locks secure EV plugs against unexpected unplugging, preventing possible damage to the system and protecting against theft of the charging cable (especially important in Europe, where many public chargers require drivers to use their own cables).
German electromechanical manufacturer Marquardt has developed a new locking system designed to make charging safer and more dependable. E-Lock works with common vehicle charging plugs, and is designed for easy integration into all EVs and charging stations.
E-Lock’s modular design allows vehicle manufacturers to adapt the system to their individual requirements. Individual changes can include:
- Mounting position (e.g. with a clip or screw connection)
- Dimensions (e.g. the bolt’s shape and extension length depending on the vehicle model)
- Connection configuration (e.g. by cable [pigtail] or in a connector configuration).
E-Lock’s small size of 50.5 x 44 x 23 mm allows it to be easily integrated into the charging input unit in small spaces, whether in a vehicle or a charging column.
Marquardt guarantees 60,000 locking cycles, and up to 100,000 locking cycles after prior technical coordination. The self-locking system is designed to provide maximum protection against tampering.
The gearbox is designed to be extremely quiet, and offers electronic measurement of up to five lock bolt positions, identifying incorrect positioning caused by dirt, ice or deformation of the charging plug.
